Rae Morris MAKEUP THE ULTIMATE GUIDE

Goss The makeup artist talked about Rae Morris and her makeup book and brushes. I was on the lookout for a good makeup book, since I love to learn new tricks and tips. A suggestion from a makeup artist about a book is valuable, since they know what they are talking about. I googled Rae Morris and the Ultimate make up guide and out of all the books that had been published of hers, this one seemed to be the best.

Having made up my mind to buy this book I found out none of the stores in Dubai currently had it in stock and were giving me two weeks to one month waiting period. Since i was in an impatient mood i decided to order online from www.fishpond.ae. I received my book within ten days.

On a quick look through the book you would not be impressed. It initially seemed just another version of the other makeup books. But my initial impression changed once i started going through it.

Its a thick book consisting of 246 pages in total. It is not hard cover. Its main core is eye makeup. Lots of different ideas, pictures and tips on how to create different looks. There is a good section on contouring as well.Overall its a good guide but somehow it left me wanting a little more. Example if your doing your crease where should it start and where to end. what colors are good for creases. For the smokey eye , where should the corner start from and how much eye lid area should it cover?

Alot of customers also complained that the book did not recommend products, but I guess that would, at the same time seem like a marketing strategy. But when people usually buy such guides, they ARE looking for guidelines to buy products as well instead of wasting money and finding out the hard way.

If you can make the page numbers out you will be able to tell the areas of concentration.

The pages are inclusive of a lot of pictures as guidelines.

What the book hopes to teach

PRO

• Pictures are not photo shopped
• Good makeup tips [ You will actually learn something and will want to copy or try some of the looks]
• Covers false eyelashes which are usually not discussed in depth
• Guide lines for make up for 30+ as well and aged skin
• Discusses contouring with clear face charts
• At 110 A.E.D its a good book
• This book also happens to have information that her other books carried, so if you are looking to buy one of her books this would be it.

CONS

• Excludes suggestions for makeup products
• More details and explanation needed to actually be able to copy or learn from a look.

VERDICT

I would recommend this book if someone was interested in buying a make up guide, but this would not be 100% satisfactory, it does leave one wanting a bit more. I have done advanced make up courses one on one with a well reputed make up artist and I still learnt a few things in the first couple of days on receiving this book. It may not teach you a lot , but it will teach you something.
